Story
Hello all! Thank you for taking the time to visit my Just Giving page.
Alice and I have decided to take part in a trek across Ypres in September this year to raise money for a charity which provides homes for our militay veterans. We will be walking around 18-25km per day. For anyone who knows me, you'll know that this will be a big challenge - I will certainly be outside my comfort zone. As a personal goal I will be keeping the crying/ whining to a minimum! I am really looking forward to raising money for such a good cause, and learning many a historical fact along the way! I'll be raising money in all kinds of ways offline as well, but any donations are greatly appreciated.
Just Giving is a great way to donate. Once you donate, they send the money directly to the charity. So it’s pretty efficient – saving time and cutting costs for the charity...you all know how I love efficiency!
The Royal Star & Garter Homes is a charity origionally founded in 1916 to care for the severely injured young men returning from the battlegrounds of the First World War. Today they provide care to the whole military family in friendly and comfortable homes. Thier residents have led amazing lives. For example, Tom Robinson who joined the Army in 1940 and his expansive tour of duty saw him visit Dunkirk, El Alamein, Syria, Lebanon, Iraq and Italy. He was badly wounded at Monte Cassino in 1944 and his left leg had to be amputated. After recovering and returning to England, Tom trained in making artificial limbs and continued to do so for 40 years. He still wears one he made himself.
Particulary at this time - approaching the centenery of the First World War - we think this is a great way to remember those who gave up their lives and lost loved ones, and to continue to support this cause today.
The trek itself will be a huge challenge for Alice and I - so any support will be welcomed!
Thanks! Loads of love and hugs <3
