Story
On Sunday 29th March 2020, my life changed forever. I lost my uncle, auntie and two young cousins in a murder-suicide. We were completely shocked and devastated, and life just seemed incomprehensible. I felt like I was living in a nightmare or in some TV drama, but this was our reality.
After about 6 months, I sought help from Cruse, and received help from one of their amazing volunteers for 12 months. I was able to completely let go and express how I was feeling, and my volunteer was able to support me every step of the way. The support I received was incredible, and after around than 25 sessions, I felt ready to go forward and finish my sessions. My mum also received support from Cruse, and we will be forever grateful for their support at the worst time in our lives.
Talking to my volunteer, we spoke about ways in which I could help myself outside of the sessions moving forward. I developed a love for running in nature and have recently started swimming in lakes to help relieve my grief, anxiety and sadness. That is why I have decided to take on this triathlon. I will be running 2.5km, swimming 400m and cycling 10.6km to try and raise money for Cruse, as their services are completely free of charge. I will be taking part in the triathlon on Saturday 2nd July 2022 at Dorney Lake. This is my first ever triathlon so I am only taking on the novice one! But hope to do more in the future.
Thank you so much in advance, and for all the continued support I have received.
For Uncle Robert, Auntie Kelly, Ava & Lexi... I will miss you forever.
