Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Earlier this year on the 15th January a friend of mine, Daniel Barden, who was also a loving Husband and Father made the decision to end his life after a short battle with anxiety and depression. The passing of Dan has come with deep shock and sadness to all his family and friends. Anyone that was lucky enough to know Dan knew he was one of the funniest, kind hearted, genuine guys you'd ever meet.
Mental health problems are a growing public concern and are prevalent not just in the UK but around the world. It is estimated that 1 in 6 people in the past week experienced a mental health problem and around 10% of people will experience depression at some point in their lifetime. Depression is the most common mental disorder that can lead to thoughts of helplessness, hopelessness and even suicide. Thousands of people end their lives by suicide each year. It is the leading cause of death among young people and is considerably higher in men.
Nothing can be harder than fighting with yourself everyday.
So, with that being said, this year on the 22nd April I will be running the Virgin London Marathon (26.2 miles) in loving memory of Dan and to raise money for his Wife Shelley's chosen charity- Storms.
Strategies to reduce male suicide.
Storms is a small organisation based in Sheffield whose goal is to improve the lives of young people. They aim to promote mental well-being, facilitate open discussions about suicide and most importantly reduce the number of male suicide.
Guys... Mental Health Matters, so please be kind and donate. Your donation will help a person who is suffering in silence.
