We work with local Kenyan people to educate and empower vulnerable girls

Story

I’ve decided to volunteer my time, passion and legal expertise to support Team Kenya, their Kenyan partner, and the projects they run tackling Gender Based Violence (GBV) in Ndhiwa, western Kenya.

Twende Pamoja are Team Kenya's grassroot partner based in Ndhiwa, and together these two charities have forged a powerful relationship that has transformed the lives of over 60,000 people in Ndhiwa, including 20,000 young girls by working with members of Ndhiwa community to address inequalities and social injustices within their community. They have established a culture of reporting GBV and have broken new ground in promoting child protection among the Ndhiwa community.

Following my involvement in the Team Kenya Society at University and my subsequent work in family and child law, I aim to raise awareness of the projects aims and impact in Kenya and the UK.  I will be liaising with local stakeholders to research and explore opportunities to further develop support to victims and survivors of GBV.

During my time volunteering in Kenya, I will be staying at Twende Pamoja’s Karibuni Eco Cottages; an environmentally sustainable enterprise project. All income generated beyond the running costs is used to support their poverty alleviating community projects, and provide a safe space for training, counselling, and education for women and girls.

By sponsoring me, your donation will support me to cover the costs of my stay and help support the continuation of vital work to tackle gender inequality and gender-based violence. Thank you!
