In November 2018 a group of MDA UK supporters came together and trekked over 70km across Israel in support of Magen David Adom, raising money for two emergency first responder medicycles. They became affectionately known as the Walkie Talkie Trekkers.

During their trek they visited a site, which at that time was just a rather large hole in the ground! This hole was to become the foundations of the new MDA National Blood & Logistics Centre. 

The new building is now nearing completion. When complete, the facility will double Israel’s blood processing capacity and protect its blood against missile, chemical and biological attack. This is vital in protecting Israel’s blood supply for the future.

MDA collects and supplies more than 80% of Israel’s blood requirements.  Over 300,000 units of blood are donated and distributed by MDA per annum. The MDA  Blood Bank Services have 45 Blood Bank Mobiles and operate 27 Bloodmobiles.  The mobile unit service is highly sophisticated and is considered to be one of the most advanced blood services in the world - collecting, checking and distributing blood to wherever it is needed. 

The Walkie Talkie Trekkers have now come together once again to support MDA UK, by helping to raise funds for the completion of the new building. Sponsoring a mezuzah to be affixed to one of the door frames within the Centre will help to raise these funds and is a fitting way to commemorate the finish of an incredible MDA project.
