Solar lighting project
This project could be one of the LFT's most enabling and transforming projects and with your on-going encouragement and support we pray that it exceeds the expectations of the parties that are engaged in making it a reality.
It is difficult to envisage that a short drive away from the shrine of Imam Hussain and Hazrat Abbas (as) there are poor families who are living without access to electricity. The only means of lighting their homes at night available to these families are paraffin lamps. For cooking, they are using either firewood they collect from the surroundings or kerosene to fuel small kerosene cookers.
Imagine now how different poor households in the targeted region will look six months from now: Instead of darkness enveloping houses and depression weighing down on minds and hearts, people will be able to recite the Quran, Ziarats for Imam Hussein (as) and Hazrate Abbas (as), to study, engage in handicrafts or simply socialize with family and neighbours in the evenings.
For my part I have pledged to walk over 80 kilometres from Najaf to Karbala to assist these needy families in taking the steps from darkness to light, from dependency to independence, from ignorance to enlightenment, from sickness to good health.
