NEPAL TREK – OCTOBER 2012
When I were nought but a lad I dreamed of climbing the world’s big mountains in all the far-flung corners of the earth. Like many of you no doubt, however, other worldly interests and labours got in the way and all too soon the dream was forgotten – or should I say in hindsight ‘parked’.
Over the intervening years I have maintained a keen interest in the sport and have climbed and walked extensively in the UK.
In late 2011, however, I learned that St Andrews Hospice, a charitable organisation working in the specialist palliative care sector and very close to both my wife’s and my heart, were planning a trip to Everest Base Camp. My dream began to re-awaken.
Unfortunately the trek dates did not prove convenient but two of my climbing buddies thought the idea of going to Nepal was just what three 65+ guys needed at this time of life. So on 22 October this year we leave for a 10 day trek from Lukla to Everest Base Camp.
I approached St Andrews Hospice and spoke to their Fundraising Organiser Bobby Mason who was able to provide me with a letter of introduction to raise funds for this most worthwhile organisation
I am trying to raise £5000 and would be grateful if you would agree to sponsor me for as much as you can. Every penny I raise will go towards the £2.2 million portion of the annual £4.2 million it takes to run the organisation.
Thank you
