Story
Why have we chosen to support Blind Veterans UK?
As a group we have been lucky enough to hear first-hand how blind Veterans UK has supported ex-Service men and women rebuild their lives after sight loss and help them to achieve their goals and ambitions.
As a result a groups of our graduates have organised a number of activities to raise funds for and awareness of the work of Blind Veterans UK.
The 2 Million Step Challenge
We are completing a 2 Million Step Challenge for Blind Veterans UK to help them support ex-Service men and women lead independent and fulfilling lives.
During the week of the 11th - 17th October a group of Graduates will be taking part in a 2 Million Step Challenge. All three cohorts will be working together to collectively reach 2 million steps over the space of the week by completing a number of different physical activities.
We have chosen to complete this challenge as in the UK there are almost 2 million people living with sight loss. We have decided to hold this event during the week of the 11th October as it also coincides with ‘World Sight Day’ which falls on the 14th October and aims to raise awareness of blindness and vision impairment.
Blind Veterans UK Awareness Day
On the 11th November, Cohort 6 will be setting up a fundraising stall at the MBDA Stevenage Site. The aim of this stall is to give our Colleagues at MBDA a hands on experience with some of the tools Blind Veterans UK provide to the visually impaired to assist with day-to-day activities. Participants will have hands on experience of the difficulty of making a cup of tea while visually impaired, and how a simple device such as a water level beeper works to assist.
All donors will also get to take part in a magnetic darts competition, with the top scorer winning a prize! So please do come visit our stall and take part!
We would be extremely grateful for any donations no matter how small to go to a wonderful charity and help them continue the amazing work they do- to see a 'shopping list' outlining how your donations make a difference visit
