Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
My chosen charity for the 2012/13 Civic Year is the Nottingham University Children's Brain Tumour Research Centre.
Brain tumours affect around 450 children each year and are currently the leading cause of cancer related death in children. The Children’s Brain Tumour Research Centre works to improve outcomes for children and young people with brain tumours and related disorders; producing innovative scientific research to treat cancer in the developing brain. Through active research, the centre aims to improve understanding of the cause, nature and outcomes of childhood brain tumours, and also works to produce better treatments for children suffering from the condition.
I have set an ambitious target of raising £18,000 during my year in office. I hope that I will, by the end of my term, be able to purchase a fluorescent microscope and camera system for the research centre. This piece of equipment will allow the centre to make significant advances in detecting the different types of tumour in children early, allowing for more specific treatment plans and improved outcomes for those affected.
I have planned a series of high profile events over this Civic year to raise funds for the Research Centre in Nottingham, which serves a significant number of young people in Gedling who are living with this illness. Staff and Elected Members at Gedling Borough Council, as well as many local residents, have been very supportive and generous thus far and I am very eager to succeed in reaching my target.
