Story
Kidscape help with bullying. 6% of children in the UK experience bullying every day. That’s equivalent to one child per classroom. Bullying has an impact on self-esteem, mental health and a child’s relationships and educational attainment. Kidscape works directly with children and families experiencing bullying, across the UK. They provide workshops for children and their families, teaching confidence and assertiveness skills to tackle a bullying situation. They provide practical support and telephone advice to parents and carers worried about bullying situations.
"Before, when I woke up, I used to have this feeling in my tummy like, 'Is something going to happen today? Is someone going to be mean to me?' but now I don't really get that often” - a Kidscape child
Bullying casts a long shadow. I know from personal experience that the effects of bullying can emerge unexpectedly at any point in one’s life. This is why the work of Kidscape which receives no statutory support and relies on donations like yours, is so important. Here is what Kidscape has achieved:
In 2017-18, Kidscape trained over 6000 professionals in how to challenge and prevent bullying in schools, and got phenomenal results:
- 96% of young people felt more confident
- 98% felt more able to be assertive
- 95% felt better about themselves
- 995 knew more about Kidscape tools they could use to help them respond to bullying
- 90% reported improvements in one or more aspects of their mental health since attending the workshop, such as feeling less depressed or less stressed
Between 6th-10th March 2019, I will take part in the World Rowing Virtual Indoor 1000m Sprint in support of Kidscape. I am currently ranked 6th worldwide at this distance. My aim is to improve my ranking by rowing for Kidscape.
Please support me and Kidscape to raise £500 for this worthy cause.
