Story
In a weak moment I volunteered to replace someone who had to drop out of this trek for Homeless International. So now with less then two months to go (44 days in total) I have to reach peak fitness and raise £1,500 - I jest. So I'm concentrating on the fund raising as the chances of peak fitness are non-existent! So far I have raised over £800 possibily a £1,000. All the money raised will go to the charity and their projects and not to pay for my (not luxury) trip.
To give you a flavour of what I will be putting myself through:-
The trek takes place in Kerala, Southern India. Arriving in Kochi, we will be transferred to Munnar and for 5 of the 10 day stay will trek between 6 to 8 hours each day through steep descents and ascents including one of the 2nd highest peaks in South India, Meesapuli (2657mts). We will be camping out for 5 nights of the trip - no toilet facilities, showers, makeup, hairdryers and hopefully no mirrors! Those who do not give generously may receive early morning photo!
As part of the trip we will also visit a community supported by - Integrated Village Development Project (IVDP) - a partner of Homeless International and learn about how poor communities are coming together to tackle poverly through saving together regularly and using their collected savings for community improvements to housing and toilets and for school fees.
I will be leaving on 12th November and returning on 21st and will update you on how it went on my return (when I've recovered)!
