Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.
My name is Max Russell, a 17 year old with ASD from Manchester. Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is a developmental disability that can cause significant social, communication and behavioural challenges. Being an individual that fully understands the difficulties and challenges that individuals with Autism face, I have been inspired to raise funds towards The Aspergers Syndrome Foundation in attempt to assist any current undergoing projects in the foundation whilst bringing more awareness to autism its-self.
With the support from my Mentor, Jamie Pilling from JEP Youth Engagement, we will doing the Coast to Coast Bike Ride or 'C2C', cycling from Whitehaven to Sunderland within 48 hours. We will be starting our journey at 11am Friday 17th September 2021, with the aim of finishing at 11am on Sunday 19th September 2021, or before!
This ride we are doing is the UK's most popular challenge cycle route, the C2C is often thought to stand for ‘Coast to Coast’, but the name is actually short for ‘Sea to Sea’. The iconic route travels 137 miles between the Irish Sea and the North Sea, from Cumbria to Tyneside, passing through the northern Lake District before climbing the Pennines and descending to the railway paths of County Durham.
We will be taking some time in this 48 hour period to rest and sleep (Camping), which will help us achieve our target, but the the most important factor is that we complete this journey. We really do believe in this amazing organisation and the work they do, and any donations should you wish to donate will be greatly appreciated from myself and Jamie.
"The Aspergers Syndrome Foundation was founded in 2002 by parents desperately seeking advice, guidance and support. The Foundations aims are dedicated to raising awareness, providing the latest research and running seminars with world leading experts in the field. Many people with Asperger's are excluded from a social life and depression can lead to loneliness and sometimes worse. We run a social club once a month for young adults for four hours providing a safe, non-judgemental environment where the focus is on social skills, mindfulness, health and well being. After 9 years we had our first engagement announced by a young couple who have been attending since its inception. All monies raised will go towards an overhaul of the website with new and current vetted links, research and information. We will also be able to continue running our helpline where enquiries are answered within 24 hours, and maintain the group activities."
Thank you again, Max and Jamie.
