Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page!
I am choosing to raise money for an incredible organization called World Land Trust. (Click here to visit main page: #mce_temp_url#). World Land Trust, or WLT, is solely dedicated to conserving forests and natural habitats all around the world. In fact, their slogan is "Saving threatened habitats worldwide". Since 1989, they have helped in the purchase or protection of over 500,000 acres of threatened habitats. Through WLT, it only takes $161 to save an acre of land. WLT are constantly helping the world by saving ecological system after ecological system.
Rainforests are much, much more than just homes to some endangered animals. Half of the world's flora and fauna will be destroyed or severely threatened due to rainforest destruction over the next 25 years, yet Rainforests still play a larger purpose than just plants and animals. Here is a tiny fraction of the benefits of Rainforests. For a full list, please click here: #mce_temp_url#.
· 25% of Western pharmaceutical products come from rainforests, but scientists have tested only 1% of rainforest flora.
· 70% of cancer-fighting plants are found in rainforests, and 25% of active ingredients in cancer drugs are only found in rainforests.
· The Amazon Rainforest alone provides 20% of the world's oxygen.
· 80% of the developed world's diet originated in rainforests.
Right now, WLT is working urgently on a special appeal to save the extremely endangered Caucasian Leopard living in Armenia. On safari in Africa, I have seen leopards. With my own eyes, I have seen them be both predators and prey. I can tell you from personal experience that leopards are an amazing species, crucial to the food chain. I implore you to help save one subspecies of them.
The WLT is also running a project called Plant a Tree with WLT. The aim of this is to raise funds to plant trees in degraded areas of the Atlantic Rainforest. All it costs is $8 to plant a tree there. In areas where trees are being cut down faster than they can regrow, many animals are dying, and the sizes of rainforests are shrinking. With enough help, WLT can rebuild these forests and save the ecosystems there.
Rainforests are a crucial part of the world. Not only do they home so much of the world’s flora and fauna, but they also have extreme benefits to humans. The World Land Trust not only saves tons of rainforests, but they save so much more. Please help me, the World Land Trust, and the entire world by spreading the word as well as giving to this noble cause.
Thank you so much!
