This Summer, I will be participating in a Raleigh International Expedition. Before I leave, I am trying to raise more than £800 towards Raleigh's work.

I will be joining other young people from around the world to undertake a five week programme in Nicaragua. I will be working on a WASH (Water, Sanitation and Hygiene) programme  which specifically targets to improve the quality of water and sanitation services to improve the overall health of communities. Nicaragua is the second poorest nation in the Western Hemisphere, only 63% of people have access to clean drinking water and 34% to clean sanitation. I will be aiding communities to improve access to safe drinking water, and raising awareness about the importance of hygienic practices. This could involve building a clean water source, or running awareness sessions on hand hygiene.

As part of the programme, I am required to fundraise £800 that goes straight to the charity. It is not for funding my travel or time spent there. The money raised will go directly towards the programme requirements and ensuring that they can continue sending youth volunteers to make a lasting difference in disadvantaged communities.
