Warwick RAG (Raising and Giving) Machu Picchu Trek 2016 · 27 October 2015
Thank you for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
My name is Muhammad and this coming Summer I hope to embark on a trek with the final destination of the Lost City of the Inca, more commonly known as Machu Picchu. The trek will begin on 04/09/16.
I will be raising funds for Make-A-Wish Foundation UK. They exist for one reason – to grant magical wishes to enrich the lives of children and young people fighting life-threatening conditions.
Whether it’s starring in their own films, walking with dinosaurs, going on an amazing holiday, meeting a celebrity hero, or having a life-changing bedroom makeover; their wishes are varied, personal and, most importantly, magical.
They go above and beyond to grant very special wishes to very special children; their dreams made a reality at a time when they need it most.
Because a child’s life shouldn’t be about illness, hospitals and diagnosis – it should be about wonder, joy and hope.
Firstly we intend to complete a short trek to the Sacred Valley near Cusco, Peru (a colonial mountain town) whilst acclimatising, then the real trek to Machu Picchu will begin in the following days. This will not be easy.
We will depart from Cusco and we will make our way between breath-taking mountain passes, past sacred mountains and through humid jungle trails, whilst crossing the towering Andes mountains.
There will be six full days of trekking, experiencing altitudes exceeding 15,000ft (half as high as an aeroplane flies!), and also experiencing various diverse ecosystems and steep mountain climbs.
We will pass by beautiful rivers and valleys as well as great glaciers and lakes, all before reaching Machu Picchu on Day 9 of the expedition.
