Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

On the 11th February 2023, Eleanor, my lovely
sister in law, lost her fight against lung and brain cancer aged just 60.
Initially it was thought that she had perhaps had a mini stroke, as the only sign of illness was that her speech had begun to slur slightly and  her balance became unsteady. She was in no pain whatsoever and had been working normally right up until this point. Unfortunately, after tests were undertaken, it was discovered that Eleanor had cancer of the lung which had also spread to the brain, and due to how advanced the illness was, she was told there was no treatment available. As you can imagine, this was devastating news. However,
once the shock of what was happening had begun to sink in, Eleanor of course went in to full fight mode. Her daughter Amy was due to get married in July 2023 and the wedding was quickly brought forward to January 28th and my God, she was determined to be there. Those of you that knew Eleanor, will know how positive she always was and how she was always the one that lifted people up. She wasn’t one to dwell on problems, she faced everything head on with her sunny disposition and positive approach and this was exactly how she faced her battle against this deadly disease. Not once did we ever hear her complain or utter those words, why me? She made the wedding of course, although by this point she had deteriorated quite dramatically.
However, she was able to see Amy and Ross married, though sadly, just over two weeks later, she lost the fight, just under 4 months after receiving her diagnosis.

Whilst Eleanor was looked after at home by John, her husband of 37 years and Amy her daughter, she had fantastic support from Marie Curie and it’s for this reason that I’m running the Great North Run 2023, to raise funds for this amazing charity. You can’t fully appreciate just how brilliant this organisation is, until you find yourself in a similar situation to Eleanor, John and Amy. They help people face and get through what for most, is the most difficult time in their Iives, the loss of a loved one. I sincerely hope you don’t ever need to use their service, but just incase you do, please give what you can, in memory of the wonderful person that Eleanor was. Thank you!
