Story
Maureen was a fantastic mum to five children; loving Nanny to ten grandchildren; a warm sister to eight brothers and sisters; and a true friend to so many, left us too soon on 25th December 2020. She had been keeping well for most of the year but the effects of COPD took its toll, leaving us as she had always wished, maintaining her independence. Her request was not to have flowers for her funeral but hoped that the money spent could be used for good causes as a longer and more fitting memory. Mum had many thoughts on good causes and as a family we believe the Salvation Army who helped her when she moved into Alexandra Road and her parents many years before, would be a fitting cause.
The Salvation Army mission is to equip, empower and enable communities to defeat poverty and injustice, and to work with them to build a better life and future. They engage people to comprehend injustice and take action to restore our world as a place where justice, dignity and equality are a reality for all people. They work alongside communities to support local projects and £10 could provide a food parcel for a family; £20 could provide care and support to a survivor of human trafficking; and £35 could provide group therapy for women who have or are experiencing domestic violence.
