On the 12th February 2010 I lost my best friend Paul Dix. During
Dixy’s life he gave selflessly, and I hope you can all do the same in
Dixy's memory.
During Dixy’s illness he spent six weeks in the
ITU ward at The Princess Alexandra Hospital, with much of this time
spent on the High Frequency Oscillator Ventilator (HFOV). During this
time I became aware as to how valuable the HFOV is to patients
like Dixy, and sadly how expensive the HFOV can be for the ITU ward to
hire.
Therefore with all of your help I hope to raise as much
money as possible to donate to the PAH ITU Ventilator Appeal. To help
raise this money I will be participating in as many fundraising events
as possible. Details of these events
will appear here and on
www.pauldixmemorial.co.uk so please be sure to check back from time to time to learn how you can help.
If any of you would like to join me in these fundraising events please get in touch at
support@pauldixmemorial.co.uk.
Alternatively
please support me and the ITU Ventilator appeal in anyway you can and
share your love and memories of Dixy through this worthy cause.
About PAH ITU Ventilator Appeal
The
Intensive Care Unit are raising funds for the a new ventilator. They
are aiming to raise £47,500 for a High Frequency Oscillator ventilator
(HFOV).
A normal ventilator (breathing machine) mimics a normal breathing pattern of 12 to 18 breaths a minute.
The HFOV can deliver up to 500 tiny breaths in a minute.
The
people who benefit from this machine are people with severe lung
disease such-as pneumonia, their lungs can become very stiff and cannot
tolerate a normal breath volume.
To hire one of these machines costs the unit approximately £2200 per week.
The PAH ITU Ventilator Appeal can be followed at www.justgiving.com/ituventilator.
