Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
In November 2014, our 4yr old daughter Phoebe began having unusual vomiting episodes. My wife and I became concerned so we took her to our GP. Nothing obvious could be found.
A couple months later the symptoms developed into headaches and vomiting. We made another doctor's appointment for early February, an appointment which she never made as she was rushed into hospital via ambulance after a violent headache on February 2nd. She was admitted to hospital that evening and tests revealed a brain tumour about the size of a golf ball at the back of her brain. The next day she underwent a 9 hour surgery to remove this tumour.
Over the next several weeks she remained in hospital recovering from surgery and learning to do virtually everything again. Walking, talking, writing, etc. In that time period doctors told us that her tumour was a Medullablastoma, a grade 4 highly aggressive form of cancer. Once she recovered enough from surgery she began high dose radiotherapy. After the radiotherapy finished she began high dose chemotherapy, during which she remained in isolation in the Sheffield Children’s hospital. After nine months of treatment she is now home and healing up slowly but steadily and officially in remission. Many of the side effects from such intense treatment are very serious and life long.
We want you to help us #FundTheFight against brain cancer/tumours. Brain tumours are the biggest cancer killer of children and the under 40s and over 16,000 people a year are diagnosed with a brain tumour. Brain Tumour Research are doing fantastic work into research to bring us #CloserToACure.
