JOGLE 2014 for Mercy Ships · 28 May 2014

Mercy Ships brings free, life-changing surgeries to women, men and children facing poverty in sub-Saharan Africa. We train healthcare professionals and build stronger medical services for everyone, creating change for decades to come. www.mercyships.org.uk

Story

WHY you may ask? As seems often to be the case it seemed like a good idea at the time however as the training miles are being clocked up and the time gets closer to the off I am realising how wrong i may have been. Good idea or not myself and four friends are now committed to doing this trip and we are looking forward to every mile, particularly the last one.

The not so famous five from Farnham will set off unsupported from John O'Groats on 28 May finishing, we hope, over 1000miles later at Lands End on 10 June 2014. Individually we will have climbed over 45,000ft, equivalent to Everest and Mont Blanc, burning off 70,000 Calories in the process, equivalent to 355 pork pies(by the way eating 355 pork pies is not part of the challenge, although if you donate generously I could be persuaded).

My chosen charity is Mercy Ships (the floating hospital) due to its sterling work on the West Coast of Africa an area in which my family and myself as a child spent many happy years. The desire to give something back to this impoverished region I am sure will be sufficient incentive to complete this trip.
