Story
Hi Everyone,
On April 17 2011, I am lucky to have been selected to run the London marathon for first time. Having applied in June, I was disappointed not to hear I had got a place. After 6 months, I was ecstatic to find out on 23rd December that I have been issued a place - what a great Christmas present!
I have been working extremely hard in recent months to lose weight. It began originally as a bet with my friends; we all put £15 in and the first to lose a stone and a half won the cash. This was a good incentive for me, as you may not know but I'm quite competitive; whether it be bowling, a game of cards or.....the London marathon! I have been loosing weight now for the past 4 months and I have amazingly lost about 30lb (and yes, I have won the bet!). The icing on the cake now, to really prove my commitment to a healthier lifestyle, is to raise money for this worthy cause.
I am a hard worker and my competitive streak knows I have to really up the anti now. The serious training begins with much anticipation and excitement to complete the 26.2 mile course. Having already run and fully enjoyed the local 10k run, it has wet my appetite for more. This is something I am determined to do and won't give up easily, as with anything in life, I like a challenge!
Now less about me and more about why I am doing it. Get Kids Going! is a great national charity which gives disabled children and young people the wonderful opportunity to participate in sport. There are 200 disabled talented youngsters who have potential to compete at the London 2012, but receive either none or very little funding and are desperate to achieve their life long dream. With your help, together we can turn their dreams into reality and help make them the sporting heroes they deserve to be. Opportunities like this don't come easy, so please give anything that you can to encourage me to run my socks off (literally!) and support this worthy cause.
