This month saw the retirement of Chief Petty Officer Henry Gibson, following more than FORTY YEARS of service in the Royal Navy.

But Chief Gibson was not only a sailor - he was Chief Fundraiser for our Naval unit - HMS SCOTIA. It is impossible to calculate, but over the years he raised thousands of pounds for MacMillan Cancer Support.

Due to the fact he is finally putting his feet up, I wanted to do something to keep this amazing link between MacMillan and HMS SCOTIA ticking over.

The unending commitment to public service, and outstanding support that Chief Petty Officer Gibson gave to others, is in some ways reflected in the lives of the thousands of carers, nurses, scientists and sufferers working hard to tackle cancer.

With his permission, I am very proud to propose we raise funds together for MacMillan in his honour.
