As many of my friends and family know, I have been a part of the Manchester Police Department's Juvenile Investigative Unit for nearly 6 years.  As part of the difficult task of investigating horrific crimes of physical and sexual abuse against children, I also have the extremely fortunate opportunity to work with an amazing organization called the Hillsborough County Child Advocacy Center (CAC).  This group of Forensic Interviewers and Family Support Specialists are absolutely crucial in the successful prosecution of the most heinous offenders in our society.   I'd venture to say they often times fill the most important role of obtaining vital information to build or strengthen our  criminal case, while guiding families through the process.  

Being a non-profit organization, they rely heavily on private donations and fundraising efforts such as the "Beards for Bucks" campaign which is a state-wide yearly endeavor to raise both funding for their services and awareness of child abuse and exploitation.  Each year, we surpass our previous funding goals and hope to continue this trend in 2020.  It has been a crazy, hectic, and chaotic year for everything life has to offer.  One of the few things that hasn't changed is the amazing work these folks do day in and day out, and their steadfast dedication to serving child victims of abuse.

Beards for Bucks is a fun and exciting fundraiser where law enforcement officers are allowed to grow facial hair for the month of October to support their local CAC. Officers depend on the generosity of the community to make a donation to support their "Razorless for a Reason" cause. A fun and easy way to support law enforcement and your local CAC! Helping child victims of physical and sexual abuse and their families requires an approach that addresses the physical, emotional and legal dimensions of abuse. And it requires a coordinated victim centered response from expert professionals to reduce stress throughout the investigation and intervention process. Child Advocacy Centers work in partnership with all the necessary agencies and specialists to coordinate a plan of action to provide high-quality, specialized services for abused children and their families.
