Story
My cousin Thomas Russell was born on 16th May 2005 and started life as a normal boy. Unfortunately, after six weeks he began experiencing stomach pains which originally were believed to be colic. Nobody was expecting that at eleven weeks Thomas would be diagnosed with a rare and aggressive form of cancer. It had started in a gland above his kidney and spread through his liver, lymph glands and bone marrow.
Thanks to the wonderful care at the Newcastle RVI, and the strength of the Russell family, Thomas survived the cancer and is now eight years old, nine in a matter of days. The commitment and care they received at the hospital was incredible and inspired my aunts Joanne and Trudi to start The Thomas Russell Cancer Trust Fund. The charity has already raised £70,000. Full details of his story, including pictures can be found here:- http://www.thomasrussellcancertrustfund.co.uk/
Despite already surviving more trauma in his first years than most have in their life, Thomas and the family have received another blow. Earlier this year he was diagnosed with pleuropulmonary fibroelastosis, a lung condition for which there is currently no known cure.
The family remain positive, and are currently filling Thomas's life with as much joy as they can - including a month in sunny Spain and VIP tickets to a wrestling match - one of Thomas's favourite activities. We have formed a team of eight unfit, unmotivated, undesirables who intend to stagger the 13.1 miles in his honour.
We would appreciate anything you can offer which will go towards searching for a new hope for Thomas and other families in impossible situation such as this.
