We fund life-changing and life-saving work to support cancer patients at The Christie

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Approximately this time one year ago I was fresh out of hospital having had major surgery to help my fight against the further spread of Melanoma. Last year while in recovery and having treatment, myself and a fantastic team completed the 3 National Peaks for Melanoma Focus. The charity was specific to my illness, but this year we aim to help the hospital that gave me my second chance. Christie helps over 60000 patients a year and is the largest cancer hospital in Europe, they really do make the difference, I've lay in the wards of this hospital, I've had treatment in this hospital, I've seen the magic they perform first hand. Everybody will be/has been effected by cancer at atleast one point in there life, be it directly or indirectly, so let's help them keep fighting the good fight.

This year (Aug 2023) we will climb the 3 Welsh Peaks, and for the ones that want to raise the bar on endurance, a select few will carry on to do the 3 Yorkshire Peaks afterwards. That will be 6 Peaks in 2 days for some.

I have then organised a second challenge where I personally will team up with  the Christie Charity to climb the 3 Spanish Peaks in September 2023 (a month later), clearing nearly 50km of mountain terrain in 3 days in the Spanish heat. Yes I'm mad, ha ha!

The Manchester Tower Run was added to my list of challenges back in February and completed in March, it was bloody hard going, here was me thinking it was a gap fill between mountains, how wrong was I 🥵

I've now added the Manchester Half Marathon to my roster (May 21st 2023)

I will be taking on the 3 Yorkshire Peaks on June 10th as a single challenge, I need the experience ahead of my 2 day challenge in August which will see me and my team stitch the 3 Welsh and Yorkshires together over 48 hours.

Inspired by my work and the energy surrounding the Manchester half Marathon, my 10 year old daughter Lily has stepped forward with her own challenges. Inspired by the '60 for Christie' young peoples fundraiser and my 'challenge 6'. Lily has created a hybrid roster of her own, it goes as follows....60 Lengths of Swimming, 60 Miles of Running, 60 Miles of Hiking, 60 Miles of Biking, Hike to the summit of Mount Snowdon, and run a 5K race at Media City (28th September 2023). She blows my mind, to take on this at 10 years of age is just amazing. We are so proud of you, we love you.

I'm OK a year on (fingers crossed) but thousands are not, so let's dig deep (again) and help an amazing cause.

Thanks in advance

Matt and Team
