Story
Imagine being a child and having pretty much all your spare time taken up with caring for your parent, or an adult trying to support a young family and hold down a job whilst looking after an elderly relative, or an older person with health problems looking after their partner of many years. Like all of us, carers live varied lives. But what makes them really stand out is their unfailing commitment to those they care for, sometimes to the extent of putting their own lives on hold or giving up some or all of their precious "me" time to support someone else.
Everyone needs help and support at various times in their life, and carers are no different. Plus, a break from caring responsibilities, once in a while, or on a regular basis, is something that helps carers continue their role and still look after their own health and well-being.
Blackpool Carers Centre is a multi-functional space where everyone is welcome and carers can drop in, take part in activities, get help and advice, or just a kick back and relax with like-minded folk and people who quite simply understand what life as a carer, is all about. The centre is a registered charity, supported by a dedicated team of staff and volunteers. It relies heavily on donations and fundraising to meet its running costs, has a community cafe, and a hair and beauty salon as part of its activities.
Blackpool Carers Centre gives something back to carers - it gives back hope, and companionship, support, well-being, a listening ear and practical help. You can help them carry on this essential work to help even more people in even more ways by making a donation. Simple, eh?
Am I daunted by the prospect of cycling nearly 500 miles in just 5 days? You bet!! Is it anything like as tough as it can be every single day for informal carers? Not even close!
Please help by donating or helping to raise money for this worthwhile cause.
