Story
I am taking part in the London Marathon on 17 April 2011 to raise money for The Eve Appeal in memory of my Mother-in-Law Maureen Phelan, who died of Ovarian Cancer in December 2007. I feel privileged to have won this place for the charity and it is very important for me to raise as much money as possible to support their tireless research into Gynaecological Cancers.
Maureen’s unwavering battle against Ovarian Cancer was an inspiration to all who knew her. She was a wonderful Wife, Mother, Nanna and Friend and is greatly missed and to raise money in her memory is an honour.
Gynaecological Cancers are the world's fourth largest cancer killer of women and every year a million are diagnosed with a Gynaecological Cancer worldwide. In the UK alone 18,000 women are diagnosed and nearly 7,500 women die every year, yet awareness and funding remains low.
The Eve Appeal is determined to change this by funding vital research focused on developing effective methods of prediction, detection, treatment and care that will help save womens’ lives not only in the UK but throughout the world.
New results from their laboratories, as well as positive interim results from their screening trials now offer real hope for earlier detection of Ovarian Cancer and scientists are confident that they can make a real impact on this disease.
All money raised will go towards this vital research and raising awareness of Gynaecological Cancers, so any donations for this excellent cause will be gratefully received.
Many thanks for your support.
Matt
