Story
Hearing loss, and congenital hearing absence deprive millions of something precious. The power of hearing is something very easily taken for granted by those who have it. You can lose birdsong to greet the morning, a doorbell to greet a person, a fire alarm for peril, a friend's voice of comfort, music, laughter and a million other things. I doubt I can properly understand the world of those who do not have it in full. Many of us have loved ones, friends and colleagues with conditions depriving them of hearing, whether we know it or not. My mum has had tinnitus for decades, needing the radio on all the time, as a little distraction for a daily life. I have recently developed tinnitus for the first time and that experience has prompted me to try to do a little to support an important charity working to support those in our community with hearing loss and to support research that will benefit them. I have normally supported other charitable causes, but for my first, and I think, only Marathon, I am supporting Action on Hearing Loss, and I would be incredibly grateful for your support! You can find out more about their work here: https://www.actiononhearingloss.org.uk/
So, would you sponsor me to run the London Marathon? I have started training and your support will make the next four months, let alone the big day on Sunday 28 April 2019, more bearable! I need to raise £2000 for the charity or pay it myself, not including gift aid so every little will help!
There's always a chance something will stop me completing the race, from the proverbial "getting hit by a bus" to something less concussive and more mundane. It's my first long distance race, but I will do my very best to make sure I finish, and I hope you would be willing to make your donation on that basis. If you only want to donate for a completed marathon, please get in touch with me.
Thank you very much indeed!
Matt
