Story

Update 05.10.2021

Marathon completed - 4.30am start but a great walk from home to Sandbanks and back. Bag full of wet weather gear and I ended up getting burnt on the beach.....2 miles from home the heavens opened and I got soaked through!

Thanks to everyone who's sponsored me thus far and those who are reading this and going to!

Having not run / waddled / plodded a marathon since 2015, and having put on some weight during lockdown I thought I would set myself the challenge of having another go at the fabled 26.2 miles. As part of the virtual London Marathon I can choose the route and take in the best of the local area in October.

I'm supporting Marie Curie. I've not had personal experience of the support Marie Curie deliver but in these times their work is unbelievably vital and their fundraising opportunities have been hit. If I can help raise a few quid by waddling round the BCP area then all the better.

My fundraising is linked to the Poole branch of Marie Curie. They've raised a staggering amount over the last few years and have won a well deserved branch of the year award of their efforts. One of the branch leads, Richard Ayres, is a good friend and his passion for the charity is infectious and therefore it's a pleasure to go through a little bit of pain for a great cause.

Marie Curie provides care and support for people living with any terminal illness across the UK. Our nurses work night and day in peoples homes and our hospices offer specialist care. We also support people emotionally, provide practical information, and match them with trained volunteers. Since 2011, Marie Curie has set up Fundraising Groups across the UK to help raise money and awareness for the charity in their local area. They are a vital part of the Marie Curie family, raising a fantastic amount each year to help ensure we can keep supporting people living with a terminal illness and their loved ones. This is through our wide range of services including hospices, nursing, Information and Support services and research
