Story
Myself and a group of mates are taking on a 4 day beast of a challenge made up of; 27 mile kayak (including 55 locks), 220 mile cycle from Herts to Wales, finished off with completing the Welsh 3000s (15 peaks above 3000ft).
Its going to be a very tough challenge, but every penny raised will go towards giving 15,000 disabled and disadvantaged young people access to sporting activities.
This challenge is part of the Challenge Access Sport campaign which will enable us to reach more young people than ever before.
Right now there are significant barriers preventing many children and young people from being physically active.
Research shows that:
- Disabled people are twice as likely to be inactive as non-disabled people.
- Children & young people from the least affluent families are the least likely to be active.
- Children & young people from ethnically diverse communities are the least likely to be active.
- By the age of 16 or 17, 64% of girls will have quit sport
- Less than half of all children and young people are meeting the Chief Medical Officer guidelines of taking part in sport and physical activity for an average of 60 minutes or more a day.
I am taking on a challenge to help Access Sport change this. With the help of fundraisers Access Sport are scaling up to support more young people than ever before and give the life-changing benefits of sport and physical activity to 15,000 disabled and disadvantaged young people.
