Story
Thanks for taking the time to look at my JustGiving page.....it's my first one!
I was "encouraged" by my lovely wife to do my bit and step off the edge of Britain's largest piece of public art in order to raise money and help fund new research at Moorfield's eye hospital.
I do of course have another reason for doing this that is very close to my heart; I've been blessed with two wonderful children; my Daughter Ellie (9yrs old) and my Son Owen (6 yrs old). Owen was born with a rare genetic condition called Ocular Albinism. As a result of this condition his eye's wobble involuntarily (which is called Nystagmus) and it renders him partially sighted. At this point in time there is no cure.....however there is great hope that future, ground-breaking research at Moorfield's internationally renowned eye hospital could lead to a breakthrough!
The particular research this abseil will be funding will investigate Nystagmus in relation to "Visual Crowding"; this is a phenomenon that makes it really difficult for people with Nystagmus to recognise objects and obstacles in their field of vision. Any additional donations will be funding research at UCL into the use of magnetic implants to control rapid eye movements in people with Nystagmus acquired later in life.
I'm also doing this in an effort to raise awareness of Nystagmus as the most common form of visual impairment in children.
Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving - they'll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they'll send your money directly to the Nystagmus Network Charity. So it's the most efficient way to donate - saving time and cutting costs for the charity.
If you feel able to donate some money towards this exciting cause....no amount too small....I'd be really grateful.
