Story
I can't believe I'm doing this to myself again! Let's just put it out there, the only running I should be doing is to the bar at last orders! But, I've managed to push all my reservations aside and I have enrolled myself on the Cabbage Patch 10 Mile race on the 14th of October!
About Me
In 30 years of playing rugby on three continents, I have developed a love for the game and have made friends around the world. My appreciation of rugby is that it is the only sport that actively encourages players of all shapes and sizes. Unfortunately, my playing days are over, however I keep my love of the game going through participating in the Quins family and through coaching. I have been coaching Harlequins Amateurs minis for 5 seasons now.
My role as coach gives me the opportunity to ensure that the kids have fun, develop their physicality, make friends and be part of a team, club and community. Having never been a top-class player, I hope that I can give these kids a love of the game so that they can reap the benefits as I have, irrespective of whether they play for the A team or the D team later in their lives. It’s wonderful to see them be part of a team and club, taking tags and scoring tries!
On a personal note, my grandfather played for Quins in the 1930s and my son has been wearing the quarters for 4 seasons now. Running for the Quins Foundation would be a great way for me to try to fill in the gap so we don’t have a skipped generation!
About the Harlequins Foundation
I am running the Cabbage Patch 10 Mile race to raise funds for the Harlequins Foundation. Established in 2015, the Foundation continues this unique spirit of Harlequins, by using the power of sport to drive positive change.
The Foundation's focus is on inspirational, sustainable and transformative solutions that tackle inequality, poor health and the challenges facing the most vulnerable in society using education, skills development and entrepreneurship.
The Foundation's current programme, Switch Into Sport, is focused on developing women's rugby, creating opportunities for young women particularly from challenging backgrounds to develop their leadership skills through rugby so that they can inspire and mentor other young women.
