Hi, my name is Matt and Iam a keen runner and I would like to support this charity as it helps my friend Jake. His a top bloke and would love to help him out, by supporting this great charity which supports him. Thanks for taking the time to visit my page.
This is my friends Jake story:
After years of suffering and my mobility and pain becoming worse, I finally got diagnosed with Hypophosphatasia (HPP) which is a rare bone condition that effects my mobility, quality of life and ability to live a normal life, as this condition effects my muscles and organs too, it makes it a very varied condition among those who have it.
I have worked all my life, from being a car mechanic to a traffic controller in Australia to being a truck driver in the UK - I have done many exciting careers which I have worked so hard to succeed at. Unfortunately due to my condition this has ended my career goals and passions in life, now working in an admin position just making ends meet.
In recent months I have had to reduce my hours at work due to doctors advice and I just can not physically cope anymore with the daily impact/struggles, my quality of life has reduced significantly, I was not wanting to "give up". I learnt the hard way and now realise I need to listen to what is going on in my life and my body as this will only get worse not better.
My life consists of constant medical appointments, hydrotherapy (when I am well enough to attempt it) and my dreaded evenings of administering my medication which is a trial drug called Strensiq, it has horrible side effects and has ruined my legs where it needs to be injected, meaning I have limited time to remain on the one and only drug for the HPP.
I am always in chronic pain (bone pain which is agonising, gnawing type pain 24/7) which is exhausting and frustrating as all I need to do is rest, I am on crutches to walk as I can not weight bare due to HPP causing mobility issues, weak bones, joints, muscle weakness and Pseudogout.
