Story
Boycott your Bed, on 9 July, is the Action for Children charity’s flagship fundraiser for the year and we know that many people will be taking part in this initiative in their bid to raise money and support the charity.
However, Matt and Tim have opted for something a little different over this same weekend in support of this fabulous charity (which c'mon must mean something to all of us...)
So we're attempting an uber-boycott-your-bed attempt of the famous '3 Peaks Challenge' but with a carbon neutral twist...
- 710km (445mi) of cycling between the UK's 3 Peaks with +7,000m (23,000ft) of ascent (rather than the somewhat conventional and polluting drive...)
- and then the 'normal' 40km of 'fast hiking' the Peaks themselves with + 3,000m (9,600 ft) of ascent
- ...whilst being fully unsupported (so self-navigating and carrying all of our gear with us on the bikes)
- ...and all in just 3.5 days!!
We start at the base of Snowdon in Wales on the morning of 9 July and finish upon ascending and descending Ben Nevis in Scotland on 12 July.
Not much more to say other than it'll involve many, many hours outdoors, plenty of endurance, and bucketloads of 'la grinta' (suffering, grit and determination), and hopefully provide a good enough reason to link this challenge to the Boycott-your-Bed campaign so that our stupidity will benefit this worthy cause.
So PLEASE donate a tuppence or two that will make our long weekend adventure even more worthwhile and help so many children in need!
Background of the 'normal' 3 Peaks Challenge, which many of you will have heard of, or even have completed, is the successful summiting of the highest peaks in each of the countries on UK mainland (achieved within a 24 hour period by driving between each peak)
- Snowdon in Wales (1085m / 3560ft)
- Scaffell Pike in England (978m / 3209ft)
- Ben Nevis in Scotland (1345m / 4413ft) -
We probably won't be posting much on social media but we'll put updates on this site and if you’d like to follow us on Strava, the details of each leg completed will be uploaded there:
