Fundraising for Kidney Care UK
2017 - I was a bodybuilder, something I got into when I lost loads of weight and changed my life. However I found out I had a genetic condition called Alports Syndrome that affected my eyes, hearing and kidneys, no matter what I did I would need to go on Dialysis and have a Kidney transplant. I continued bodybuilding and I decided I wanted to join a competition but in 2019 I started to get more tired and didn't feel good, I knew something was not ok.
October 2020 - I was stage 5 chronic kidney failur, went on peritoneal dialysis for 6 months but my body did not like it, I was holding to much fluid and had dangerous levels in my blood. I then went on haemodialysis, I felt fantastic within weeks and I knew the difference. It was a struggle, mentally 😪 and physically. I don't think people realise how hard it actually is. I managed 3 days a week, 4 hour sessions while working full time but it was so hard, I was always exhausted 😩 but my job let me continue what I enjoyed.
January 2022 - I started to get fed up, wanted to give up with my treatment. I was crying 😢 in the car, that how hard it was getting but... on 23rd January I got a call 3am in the morning. Transplant went successfully. Recovery process was tough, it felt like I had to learn to walk again but it was nice not being on a dialysis machine. May 10th 2022 - I was told I can no longer go into bodybuilding because it will stress my kidney to much. I decided to get into cross country/marathons but also join charity events. First event is the 5K Donor run 🏃♂️
