Story
Thank you for taking the time to visit our donations page!
On 1st June, Grace and I have enrolled on a 13 mile trek through London to raise money for the Alzheimer’s Society. This is an amazing charity and is particularly personal to us both as Grace's Granny/my Mum was diagnosed with Alzheimer's three years ago and we would like to try and raise as much money as possible to help them to try and find a cure. We know you get lots of these appeals but we hope that you can donate even a small amount. We have a target of £2,000 to raise. So please, if you can spare anything, we would be extremely grateful.
Grace's Granny/my Mum has always been strong, determined, gregarious and extremely sociable. She has travelled all over the World, loves to read and was a fantastic cook. However this disease is gradually robbing her of memory and ability to do the things she loves in life which she finds immensely frustrating and depressing as she is well aware of what she’s no longer able to do. It is also extremely difficult for Grace's Grandpa/my Dad too, as he watches the person that he has been married to for 64 years steadily become submerged behind the waves of this disease.
Grace has been really keen for us to do this trek - she was too young to join me in 2017 but she desperately wants us to play our part in helping find a cure for this disease. Scientists are gaining on dementia making discoveries to change lives but they can’t do it alone and we must bring dementia out of the shadows, so the people living with this devastating condition can lead more fulfilling lives and ultimately that we can stop this affecting us all in the future. The various forms of dementia are one of the biggest health threats facing society. There are currently 850,000 sufferers but within the next 30 years is predicted to rise to 2,000,000.
As Grace’s Granny said in 2017, “although it’s too late for me, thank you for doing this trek - hopefully the money raised can ensure that your generation doesn’t have to suffer this in the future”. Seeing it first hand, we couldn’t agree more.
Thank you so much from us both for your support.
Grace and Matthew
