Kielder Marathon 2013 · 6 October 2013 ·

We support Carers throughout Gateshead to have a life outside of their caring role

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I am running 26.2 gruelling miles of the Kielder Marathon in a few weeks. Though a fairly keen runner, by October the 6th it will have taken me over 500 miles of training to build up to the level required to run for 4-5 hours. This amounts to around 75 hours of training over 4 months.

I am extremely lucky to have had this amount of free time to train. I can disappear for up to three hours on my own, and especially on these longer training runs I have been thinking about what a luxury this is. There are thousands of people in the UK who couldn't do this due to their responsibility to and for others.

I am running for Crossroads as it provides support workers to carers young and old, who dedicate all their lives to looking after family members with mental or physical disabilities.

Whether it is providing an elderly man with an hour's window to leave the house knowing his wife is still being cared for, or allowing a teenager time away from caring for a parent to attend school, Crossroads gives carers the break that they need from a very stressful and demanding life.
