Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I have decided to use my talent for getting a wheelchair uphill to use in a big 3 way fundraising campaign during 2011, I intend to raise much needed funds for Batten's Disease Family Association, Parkinson's UK and on this page for the Huntington's Disease Association, in memory of my Father In Law, I am very proud to have raised £600 for the HDA in 2010 and am delighted to do what I can to help them again in 2011
For those that know me, I like a challenge, if its too easy, then it ain't worth doing, I was diagnosed with a degenerative condition called Avascular Necrosis in early 2008 in the hips and legs, I also have Osteoarthritis, the AVN is taking away my mobility, I also suffer a lot of physical and mental fatigue which adds to day to day difficulty but c'est la vie i guess, however disability has been a posiitive thing rather than a negative for me and I feel it has made me a stronger person mentally and a better person all round.........and you get cracking biceps too with a wheelchair!!!
I cant walk unaided any distance anymore, so have taken up wheelchair racing to keep me out of trouble, in 2010 I did the Plymouth Half Marathon on crutches......i finished but at a price to my own health, I did raise in all £600 for the HDA, I also did my first two races as a wheelchair athlete towards the end of the year.
In 2011 I have decided to expand my effort, I will be taking part in a series of races from 5k upwards in my wheelchair.....around 10 races during the year incluing the Plymouth Half Marathon again, I probably wont be fast or pretty but i will give it my best an barring injury...or punctures will finsh every time.
***I will list race details as and when I get them in case anyone want to cheer me on, revive me, shower me with water or give us a push, confirmed race diary so far is
