Story
Me and Tasha are abseiling down St Thomas’ Hospital, as back in June 2021 my brother Lewis had a horrific near fatal accident which meant he needed the specialist care of the team on Intensive Care Unit 6 at St Thomas' Hospital. Despite the fantastic care that Lewis had received from the HEMS, the ambulance service, Kent Police and King's College Hospital, it wasn't quite enough.
After being in King's for less than 24 hours he was showing little signs of response to the care given, and so was referred to St Thomas' Hospital for something called ECMO (extracorporeal membrane oxygenation). ECMO is, long story short, a machine which acts as your lungs and heart for you. This is what got Lewis through the most critical 72 hours. All this alongside a ventilator which breathed for him, a filter (dialysis) machine to help his kidneys function, and numerous drugs to fight countless infections.
Myself, Tasha and my family can't thank the whole team on ICU 6 at St Thomas' enough for the excellent level of care that they provided Lewis last year, and after 11 months Lewis has only just recently returned home to continue his recovery. Without the outstanding care he received he wouldn't be where he is today.
Any amount of money is greatly appreciated to help the ECMO ICU out, as without this Lewis may not have been here today.
