Hi my name is Matt. I'm currently the Allotment's officer for Walsall Council. My time with Gareth started June 2013, he first approached me offering me a position under his guidance, which at the time I thought was great considering my job was at risk. However I went on to work with Gareth and had the privilege to get to know him as a colleague and a close friend.
Gareth had terminal cancer and despite facing adversity, he came to work. He had the upmost passion to oversee the improvements of parks and open spaces throughout the Walsall Borough. Gareth and his team raised millions of pounds of funding into Walsall Parks and also achieved Green Flag status for a number of years at Palfrey Park and Willenhall Memorial Park.
Gareth, despite his illness came to work in a lot of pain, he overcame this. He didn't do it for himself, he did it for the people who use the parks, the community.
Gareth was heavily involved in his charity work. The main charity he admired was ' The Teenage Cancer Trust'. He has raised £1000's of pounds towards the charity.
It's a shame I only knew Gareth for a short amount of time. He taught me so much over the short period of time and I will always remember him for the effort he put in to support me at work.
Before Gareth passed, we spoke about setting up a Charity Football Match. This was going to be between Strategic v Operations and the proceeds would go to Teenage Cancer Trust. Unfortunately this never materialised whilst Gareth was with us. So I have decided to pick up the mantle on his behalf.
The Football Match will be on Monday 29th September at 5:00pm, the venue will be at King George V Playing Fields, Stafford Road, Bloxwich, Walsall. So please come along and support the cause.
Gareth Perrins Seedhouse was a great man and passed away at such a young age, leaving a beloved wife Nina, and his 3 young children behind.
Please donate and support Teenage Cancer Trust and give a thought to Gareth and his family. Please visit Walsall's Local Parks and spare a thought for Gareth and his views. Gareth even on his hospital bed was carrying out work, planning in the things that need to be done next year. This was all for you, the public and future generations to enjoy all the parks assets, including new gyms, skateboard areas, multi games user areas, the list goes on.
Thank you and please donate what you can.
Best Wishes
Matt Petty
