Story
Many of us are affected by cancer. I never really understood the consequence of this until it came into my life. My mum lost her battle with cancer after 3 years. We were there with her every step of the way but there was only so much we could do. We didn’t understand our own emotions, let alone what mum was going through. Maggies helped. Maggies gave mum the support that we couldn’t. She met other people who could understand her, and it helped with her sense of loneliness. They have a great team of professionals as well as a community of patients who support each other. It gives me a lot of comfort knowing other people could help take care of mum and understood what she was going through. Because of this I want to help give that comfort to others.
I tried to think of a way that I could give back to Maggies. I wanted to do something that would make my mum proud, and that would allow me to give something back. Something my mum always wanted me to do was lose weight. Since her final diagnosis I have been doing just that, and I am happy to say she saw the initial efforts and was proud of my progress. I have gone through this journey with another group of people through a weight loss football league. They have given me a tremendous amount of support throughout this journey. I have also learnt how cancer has affected their lives, and how they have needed support with mental health. My brother has also been a big part of my weight loss, giving me goals and encouraging me throughout. As a goal for this weight loss we have all agreed to participate in tough mudder this year. We are all pushing ourselves to do something we never thought possible. Between us we are doing two tough mudders in July. We are doing this to better ourselves and to raise money for Maggies. I would love to think that I would be bettering myself as well as giving back to the people who did so much for my mum. Just giving that comfort to one other person would be amazing, but I want to help as many people as possible. So please donate whatever you can to this cause, it is more than worth it
