Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I will be taking part in the Bath half Marathon in March
2016, for a charity that I believe have and will continue to change many young lives, including mine, my partner's and my family's.
It all started in August 2012, just a few months after my 21st birthday when I had a couple of seizures. After many tests and scans we finally had an answer to why. The result shocked me, my partner and family as it was a shadow on the front left lobe of my brain. In September I had an operation to remove the tumour, it was discovered to be a grade 2 Astrocytoma tumour. I recovered really well from this operation, only staying in hospital for a few days after, with no side effects.
In March 2014, 18 months later, I had another two seizures which meant that unfortunately the tumour had returned. I had my second operation in August of the same year, this time though it had moved up a grade and it was now a grade 3 tumour. This time round I did not recover so well, I temporarily lost the ability to speak and lost the movement of my right hand side. I remained in hospital for a week after the operation and it took me around a month to fully recover. Thanks to the support of my family and friends, and a few visits to a speech therapist.
After the operation, I had a 6 week course of radio and Chemotherapy. I had to travel back and forth to Bristol everyday for the treatment, by the end of it I knew the journey off by heart but it had taken its toll, I was like a zombie ! My partner Chloe, all my family, friends and colleagues provided me with the support I need to get through this tough time.
My place of work were fantastic during this period of my life, providing me with support and the time I needed to recover.
With a lot of luck and Fingers crossed I am currently feeling at full health and it the tumour not reared its ugly head again so far. I intend for it to stay that way for some time.
I could not have gone through any of this without the support and help that was provided by CLIC Sargent. They were there every step of the way, not only for me, but my partner and family as well!
I would like to thank everyone at CLIC Sargent for their
support over the past few years, and feel determined to give back by raising money for this fantastic charity. As you are all aware I’m not a natural runner but I fully intend to commit to my training to ensure that not only will I finish the half marathon but I will finish in a respectable time!
Thank you for taking the time to read my story, now it’s
over to you to donate (friends, family and anyone feeling generous) and help me raise money for this well-deserved charity. So I ask, please get donating and help me get to my goal.
Thanks again
Matt Dyer
