Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Unfortunately, cord compression starved Matilda’s brain of oxygen at birth. She was born having a seizure and went straight into neo-natal and was left with brain damage that has resulted in cerebral palsy and epilepsy.
Now 5 , she has stiffening and tightness of her limbs. Apart from the obvious limitations and challenges of Matilda’s condition she enjoys a relatively good quality of life and brings a smile and joy to everyone who meets her.
Her main setbacks are her physical limitations and the constant pain and discomfort that her condition causes.
To help her Matilda has been reccommended for an operation called Selective Dorsal Rhizotomy (SDR - http://www.gosh.nhs.uk/medical-information/procedures-and-treatments/selective-dorsal-rhizotomy)
SDR will release the stiffness and pain in her legs and make her much more comfortable. This will help her sit, make transitions between postures, and her communication and motor skills will also improve.
The operation has a 100% success rate and Doctors expect it will reach her full potential. Currently under review by the NHS, SDR has been through a scheme entitled ‘Commissioning through Evaluation’, but funding has now come to an end while the results are evaluated so families wishing to have the treatment on the NHS now have to self-fund.
Anyone interested in helping the Matilda's Mission Appeal is asked to contact Caudwell Children on 01782 600867 or to donate online visit www.justgiving.com/matildasmission
Important note to donors: As long as Matilda requires the funds raised to pay for SDR treatment and post-operative rehabilitation, Caudwell Children will manage all payments of funds for the family. Should there come a time, for whatever reason, that Matilda no longer requires the funds raised then the monies raised will be used to provide similar donations to sick and disabled children living within the UK through the charity, Caudwell Children.
