Story
Roll up, roll up, dig deep....I am running the 2017 Brighton Marathon to raising money towards the £85k needed to fund 4 year old Amelia's SDR operation - a life changing procedure that isn't offered on the NHS.
Amelia was born with long term spastic diplegia cerebral palsy. As Amelia gets older she will continue to lose her independence as her mobility decreases and she will suffer discomfort throughout her life due to muscle spasms.
There is no cure for cerebral palsy, but Amelia has been offered hope in the form of a life changing operation called Selective Dorsal Rhizotomy (SDR). Great Ormond Street Hospital have approved Amelia for SDR and the operation is booked for March 2017. They are going to permanently cut about 75% of the motor nerves to her limbs and she is going to have to learn to walk all over again. It's going to take at least two years of intensive rehabilitation physiotherapy to achieve this. This will give Amelia far better mobility, greatly increasing her independence. This operation will not only get rid of the daily pain but will mean that watching life from the sidelines will become a thing of the past.
The operation and ongoing physiotherapy are not covered by the NHS. Her parents need to raise a huge £85,000 to make this a reality. That's where you come in...your sponsorship for my Marathon will go directly towards reaching the £85,000 total to fund Amelia's life changing operation.
