We are a 24 hour search & rescue service to save lives at sea

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

This September I have decided to attempt the Great North Run! A whole 13.1 miles… this is going to be a challenge as currently the furthest I have attempted to run is 5 miles. My current unhealthy lifestyle consists of KFC, Alcohol and Monster Munch. Nevertheless I will be starting my training in the New Year as well as fighting the KFC cravings away in preparation for this run and the great charity I’m running for as it’s my aim to finish this half marathon in a respectable time.

I am running to raise money for the Royal National Lifeboat Institution; the RNLI is the charity that saves lives at sea. The RNLI is an independent charity, funded by voluntary donations; they could not operate without the public’s support. The RNLI has saved more than 139,000 lives since its foundation in 1824. They provide a 24-hour lifeboat search and rescue service around the coast of the UK as well as a seasonal lifeguard service on many of the busiest beaches in England and Wales. The RNLI provide an advice service to all coastal towns on important sea safety issues. They have a dedicated Flood Rescue Team, which is able to assist in flood emergencies not only across the UK but globally.

My support for this charity stems partly from my location, as living near the coast of Blackpool and St Annes, I can see the work daily that the RNLI do. Also training for my lifesaving Bronze Medallion at an early age, was a great personal achievement. This was supported by the RNLI and is my first stage to later being able to volunteer with them. This really is a great charity and one that I hope you will think is deserving of making a small donation to.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

So please dig deep and donate as much as you can.

Thank you :)

RNLI volunteer lifeboat crews provide a 24-hour search and rescue service all around the UK and Ireland, while lifeguards keep a careful watch on the UK’s busiest beaches. RNLI lifesaving and drowning prevention depend on supporter fundraising and the generous donations that you and others give.
