Story
Hi,
My mum has Alzheimer's. I probably haven't mentioned it because it's hard for me to rationalise this horrible illness that takes wonderful humans and leaves empty shells behind. Frankly, it can absolutely do one. That's where the folk at Alzheimer's Research UK come in. They're working on, and funding, research projects to help find a cure for Alzheimer's. If you know me, you know how much I believe science is going to cough up the answers.
I bought a bike in January having done essentially no real exercise for 20 years. Call it a midlife crisis. My first ride was 6km and I thought I would need a paramedic when it was over.
On Sunday 19 June 2022 - father's day - I'll be pulling on the lycra and pushing my slightly overweight frame off from Clapham Common in London to cycle all the way to Brighton. It's 54 miles, a distance I'd usually call "about an hour in the car".
It's the British Heart Foundation that run this event and I've supported them for over 10 years. When my dad had a heart attack one Christmas Eve their people were there. If I get to my (very modest) target of £300 for ARUK, I'll make a chunky donation to BHF from my own pocket. Everyone's a winner.
Times are certainly tough and I really understand there are lots of demands on your pocket at the moment. Anything you donate is very much appreciated.
In return, I'll bore you with "training" updates and you'll be able to follow my progress live on the day if you're really bored.
If you pay tax don't forget to say so when you donate so more dosh goes to charity and less goes to Rishi Sunak.
Thanks,
Matt
