Story

Update:

Alhamdulillah, WITH YOUR HELP, we have been able to raise the funds required to build a mosque in Kenya. This is in a location where the nearest mosque is 5km away. As part of the formal proposal, the local community have also requested a madrassa as children are currently studying under trees. As you all donated generously and responded quickly to the cause, we have extended this project to also build a madrassa for the community.

The Mosque will include all the necessary amenities for the local community including:

  • The Mosque will be able to accommodate approximately 200 prayer attendees
  • Two classrooms
  • Minaret for Mosque
  • Electrical work (including lighting and fans)
  • Sound system
  • Water storage tank
  • x3 Toilets for Mosque
  • x2 Toilets for Madrassa
  • Ablution Area (x8 seats)

Summary of the proposed location:

There is an urgent need to support this community with a purpose-built Masjid. With no Masjid no prayer area, the residents currently resort to offering their prayers in their homes. A purpose-built Masjid will rekindle their religious beliefs and help foster unity and brotherhood amongst people. (Please click on gallery to view the proposed location)

Women of the community have also expressed their desire for a place of worship, so part of the Masjid shall also be segregated as a women’s prayer area.

With very limited resources and infrastructure many children are deprived of access to any education and religious teachings. A purpose-built Madrassa shall support the community to educate their young generation, who mostly deprived of any education.

Why we are raising money on behalf of our beloved Father

Inna Lillahi Wa Inna Ilayhi Raajioon (To Allah we belong and to Him we shall return)

Our Father, Mohammed Abdus Salam (Rahimahullah), has returned to Allah, after suffering from Covid-19 for many weeks in hospital.

Along with being the most amazing and caring father one could ask for, he was also an advocate for the development of our community since 1970’s. His tireless efforts have left a positive impact in Tower Hamlets and beyond. He always fought for equality, justice, development of our community and the anti-racism movement.

Due to the sacrifices he made, the wider community has greatly benefitted up to now and key leaders of our community have emerged. May Allah accept all his efforts as a Sadaqah Jariyah. To list some of his key achievements, we have noted down some projects and organisations he has helped establish:

  • Progressive Youth Organisation (PYO) - One of the Founding Members who established this in the 1970s, which till today, continues to help the local youth in the community, both socially and educationally.
  • Keen Students School (KSS) - Introduced one of the first ever homework support classes and extra tuition organisations in the community.
  • Tower Hamlets Law Centre - Actively engaged from developing the Tower Hamlets Law Centre and up until his passing, he was  still part of the Management Committee.
  • Boundary Community Mother Tongue School - Helped local youths engage with their mother tongue, which helped ease family relations.
  • Federation of Bangladeshi Youth Organisations - Established an Umbrella Organisation to challenge the Local Authority and Central Government against discrimination and inequality.
  • Bangladeshi Educational Needs in Tower Hamlets (BENTH) - Established this organisation, which addressed issues why schools in Tower Hamlets were failing.

  • Phoenix Youth Project (Bromley by Bow) - Established another youth service organisation like the PYO.
  • Kobi Nazrul Centre - The only Bengali Cultural Centre in East London at the time.

  • Truanting Youth Club - Opened to reduce the number of young people on the streets and encourage them to attend school through negotiation and effective communication.

To remember his work and sacrifices he made and more importantly, to benefit him in the hereafter, we, his family, would like to construct a masjid in Kenya as a Sadaqah Jariyah on his behalf.

As our Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) famously mentioned: “Whosoever builds a house (Masjid) for the pleasure of Allah, whether it be small or large, Allah builds for him a house in Paradise.” [Tirmidhi].

We present an opportunity for everyone InshaAllah‎ to reap ongoing rewards solely for the pleasure of Allah. This Masjid will be constructed for the local community in Kenya. The Masjid is a pivotal point for communities to bring people closer to the religion of Allah and to also build cohesion and brotherhood amongst the community - something our father was a great advocate of.

We have the following initiatives available:

*Wall of Mercy share £250 or more - LIMITED 60 SHARES*

We would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your kind duas and support you have all provided during this extremely difficult period for our family. May Allah accept this from you and us.
