Story
Mary’s Meals is an international movement that sets up school feeding projects in communities where poverty and hunger prevent children from gaining an education. The charity now feeds more than 600,000 children every school day and it costs just £10.70 to feed a child for a year.
For those of you who don't personally know me, I broke my ankle quite spectacularly almost 3 years ago now and have been dependant on mobility aids since. I also have chronic brittle acute asthma and have had difficulty with physical activities for nearly 15 years.
As you can might expect, doing every tasks is more difficult for me than you might expect and so this challenge will be a MASSIVE challenge for me. The route round the loch is 6km (nearly 4miles)!! It is estimated for a walk round the loch to take about 2hours...I take half an hour to walk what my sister can in about 10 minutes! Thus, it'd be safe to assume it will take me AT LEAST 6 HOURS to complete this circuit!!
As I said before, I use mobility aids...so to complete this circuit I'm going to go round Strathclyde Park switching between my wheelchair and rollator.
and "Mary's Meals on Wheels" is born...
According to Naismith's rule, wherein you:
"Allow 1 hour for every 3 miles (5 km) forward, plus 1 hour for every 2000 feet (600 metres) of ascent."
...just think how far you'd walk in 6 hours...18miles -or 30K!!!
Yeah, to say this will be a challenge for me is a bit of understatement...So please dig deep and donate!!!
I will be undertaking this challenge in memory of a lovely man whom I have the privilege of calling a friend. He will forever have a place in my heart.
Mark MacFarlane-Barrow, the son of Calum and Mary Anne, and brother of Ruth, Seumas, Fergus and Magnus. Mark passed away while on pilgrimage in Medjugorje, Bosnia-Herzegovina.
