Maryam's Wish Foundation

As you guys know, I have been working with Islamic Help within Tanzania over the last few years. My last trip was in memory of my lovely niece Maryam, who passed away at the age of 7 from ovarian cancer. We started Maryam’s Wish Foundation and have so far raised around £30,000, building 4 water wells, supporting the Orphan Village and planted 1500 fruit trees in poor remote areas of Tanzania, with the help of Islamic Help.

One of the things that really hit me while I was out there is the condition of all the places of worship the communities had set up. So our aim this time around is to not only find a place in need of clean water but to also find a community in need of having a place they can gather and worship Allah.

The area we have carefully picked is the remote Handeni district in Tanga region of Tanzania. We aim to start the build of the water well in around 10 weeks’ time bi'ithnillah and then start the mosque on the same site, in around 9 to 12 months, having a capacity of around 200-300 people. The cost of this we expect to be around £20,000.
