In memory of Christopher Martin
During the month of September, Stop Foodborne Illness challenges our constituents, their friends and families, and our donors to take 3,000 steps each day - every day - to honor the 3,000 lives lost each year to foodborne illness in the U.S.

Story

In the United States, the Center for Disease Control and Prevention estimates that 3000 people die from foodborne illness annually. In recognition of September's annual Food Safety Education Month, STOP has organized a fundraiser called STOP3000.

When my son Chris was 7 years old, he almost died from an E.coli
0157:H7 infection that developed into a rare childhood disorder called
Hemolytic Uremic Syndrome. He spent 2 months in the hospital, 5 weeks being in the ICU. His illness was life changing for our family. Seventeen years later, I am the co-board chair of STOP Foodborne Illness.

In honor of the 3000 children and adults that die each year from a foodborne pathogen, I am walking 3000 steps a day in the month of September. Coincidently, Chris became ill in the month of September.

Please consider sponsoring me.  All money goes to the amazing work we do at STOP Foodborne Illness.
